As an artist working within themes of climate change and ecosystems, an aspect that I value the most is community outreach and education. As such, one of the many hats I wear is the Artistic Director and co-founder of CAYO Art + Science Residency. We were located in the Bahamas for a few years, but Covid changed our plans. We are thrilled to announce that — as of 2023 — we have partnered with CEBIMar, the Marine Biology Institute associated with the University of São Paulo.
Our Mission
Cayo Residency facilitates a creative, fulfilling environment for artists by merging the beauty of the natural world, scientific exploration, collaborative conversations, and biology-based research. We have now partnered with CEBIMar Marine Biology Institute and have relocated to the Atlantic Rainforest region of Sāo Sebastiāo, Brazil. Our goal is to provide artists with a variety of stimulating experiences with which they can conceive new projects and deepen their creative practices. By tapping into the intrinsic intelligence, design and beauty of nature, our artists return home as stewards of ecology, stimulated to protect and educate others with their work.

Our 2025 residents included George Boorujy (also a resident in 2018), and Lisa Schonberg. The 2026 residents are currently being selected and will be announced soon. To learn more about this residency, please visit our website, www.cayoresidency.com, or follow us on IG at @cayoresidency .
